The Università degli Studi di Palermo (UniPa, University of Palermo) is a public university in Palermo, Sicily. Its origins go back to the Accademia Panormitana degli Studi, which was raised to university status in 1806 by Ferdinand III of Bourbon. Besides Palermo, it has campuses in Agrigento, Caltanissetta and Trapani. According to the university it had 46,482 students in 2025/26.
UniPa has 16 departments and a School of Medicine and Surgery, and offers 163 bachelor's, master's and single-cycle master's programmes, 44 specialisation schools and 33 PhD programmes, as well as postgraduate master's. Several degrees are taught in English, including:
- Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Finance, Economics and International Cooperation for Sustainable Development, industrial and information engineering, and Nursing
- Master's degrees in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Neuroscience, International Relations, Management Engineering and Mediterranean Food Science and Technology
- Fully online master's in electronics and telecommunications engineering and in international relations, politics and trade
International students are those holding a non-Italian diploma or degree; non-EU applicants pre-enrol for their visa, and pre-enrolment does not guarantee a visa. The International Affairs office publishes a guide for international students, runs a help desk, and offers double and joint degrees, Erasmus+ mobility and membership of the FORTHEM European university alliance. A COT desk helps non-EU students apply for their residence permit within 8 days of arrival.

Some are offered fully or mainly online. UniPa also has 33 PhD programmes, 44 specialisation schools and first- and second-level master's.
Admission
Applicants with a non-Italian diploma or degree are treated as international students. There are separate enrolment procedures for non-EU students living abroad and for EU citizens and non-EU citizens whose family lives legally in Italy, plus a handbook and help desk for degree seekers. Pre-enrolment does not guarantee a visa appointment or a visa, which is issued only by the Italian diplomatic and consular offices. After arrival, non-EU students staying more than 90 days must apply for a residence permit within 8 days, with passport, health insurance, proof of funds and accommodation, and their pre-enrolment form.
