Università degli Studi di Messina

University in Messina, Italy

The Università degli Studi di Messina (UniMe) is a university in Messina, Sicily, on the Strait of Messina. It was founded in 1548 by Pope Paul III and refounded in 1838 by King Ferdinand II. According to the university, it has 4 campuses, 12 departments and more than 100 bachelor's, single-cycle and master's degree programmes, 15 of them taught in English.

  • Policlinico campus (south): the three medical departments
  • City centre: law, economics, political and legal sciences, education
  • Papardo campus (north): engineering, chemical, biological and pharmaceutical sciences, mathematics, computer science, physics and earth sciences
  • Annunziata campus: ancient and modern civilisations, veterinary sciences and the university sports complex

New English-taught programmes from 2026-27 include a bachelor's in Heritage Innovation Engineering and a master's in Global Security Studies. International applicants submit a pre-evaluation application online (the UniME Application Portal for English-taught courses), and a UniME Foundation Course prepares applicants with fewer than 12 years of schooling. Tuition for international students depends on their country of origin. University residences in several parts of the city host students from outside Messina and international students.
