Sapienza Università di Roma (Sapienza University of Rome) was founded in 1303 and is the oldest university in Rome; according to the university, it is also the largest in Europe, with 125,332 students in the 2022-2023 academic year. Its main campus, the Città universitaria, is at Piazzale Aldo Moro in Rome. More than 11,000 students are international, and about 3,500 a year take part in international mobility programmes.

Applicants for English-taught degrees apply from home through an online pre-selection; procedures for other programmes depend on EU or non-EU citizenship and visa needs and are handled by the International Student Office. Tuition fees are calculated according to family income (ISEE), with separate rules for students with foreign income. Exchange students can come through Erasmus+ and the CIVIS European university alliance, and the university offers double and joint degrees. Services include 44 libraries, a Career Service, a large sports centre and 19 university museums.

- Students who lack the minimum schooling requirements can take the Foundation Year (in Italian)
