The University of Louisville (UofL) is a public university in Louisville, Kentucky's largest metropolitan area. Founded in 1798 as one of the first city-owned public universities in the United States, it has three campuses (Belknap, Health Sciences Center and Shelby) and is accredited by SACSCOC. The Carnegie Foundation classifies it as a Research 1, Community Engaged and Opportunity College university.

More than 25,000 students study in 12 schools and colleges, which offer undergraduate degrees in more than 60 fields, master's degrees in more than 75 areas and doctoral and professional degrees in more than 35 disciplines. About 30% of students come from outside Kentucky, including a growing number of international students.

International undergraduates apply through the Take Flight Application or the Common App, and the International Center issues the I-20 or DS-2019 for the student visa. Scholarship programmes exist for international freshmen and transfer students holding an F-1 visa. Students can live in residence halls and living-learning communities on campus or in partner off-campus apartments.
