The University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh (UW Oshkosh, UWO) is a public university in Oshkosh, in the Fox Valley region of north-eastern Wisconsin, in the United States, near Lake Winnebago. It belongs to the University of Wisconsin System and has three campuses. The university emphasises small class sizes and personal academic and career advising, and has more than 180 student organizations.

UWO offers undergraduate majors in business, engineering and technology, health sciences, education, the arts and humanities, and social sciences, from Accounting, Business Analytics and Computer Science to Nursing, Medical Imaging, Japanese Studies and Radio/TV/Film. It also has graduate studies and online programmes.

International students can enrol as first-year, transfer, visiting or exchange students, or take online classes. First-year applicants use the free Universities of Wisconsin Application; ACT and SAT scores are not required, and English proficiency can be shown with TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or other accepted tests. UWO awards over US$1,000,000 in scholarships each year, and the Titan Global Scholars programme is designed specifically for international students.

Admission Requirements

International first-year applicants follow these steps:

  • Complete the free Universities of Wisconsin Application (apply.wisconsin.edu)
  • Submit high school transcripts or final exam results (unofficial accepted for the application), in the original language with an official English translation; official transcripts are needed after graduation
  • Submit proof of English proficiency
  • After admission, complete the Immigration Document Application with a Financial Verification Form, bank statement or scholarship letter, and a passport copy

ACT and SAT scores are not required.

Language Requirements

Minimum English scores (undergraduate / graduate):

  • TOEFL iBT: 4.0 (undergraduate); before January 2026: 71 / 79
  • IELTS: 6.0 / 6.5
  • Duolingo: 95 (undergraduate)
  • PTE: 48 (undergraduate)
  • ACT English 18 or SAT 460 (undergraduate)
  • IGCSE or British A-Level English: C or higher

Students from countries where English is the official language, and those who studied in the United States for their last two semesters, are exempt.

Financial Aid

UW Oshkosh awards over US$1,000,000 in scholarships each year; admitted students can apply for UWO scholarships. Titan Global Scholars is a scholarship programme developed specifically for international students, and admitted students needing a visa can apply for a need-based scholarship during the immigration application process.
