Utah State University (USU) is Utah's land-grant and space-grant state university. It was founded in 1888 as the Agricultural College of Utah and took its current name in 1957. The main campus is in Logan, Utah (United States), and USU has 30 statewide locations, including USU Eastern in Price, as well as more than 60 online degrees.

USU offers over 370 degree options at undergraduate, master's and PhD level, with more than 130 majors and programmes in six academic colleges. Bachelor's degrees include aerospace engineering, entrepreneurship, international business, music therapy and religious studies, and the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business traces its first degrees back to 1894. The graduate school offers more than 130 degrees. Research focuses on space, water, land, air and quality-of-life questions.

International undergraduates on an F-1 visa study at the Logan or Price campus. They apply online with a US$50 fee, official transcripts with a minimum GPA of 2.7 and proof of English proficiency, for example TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 6.0. A US$200 enrollment deposit is needed before the I-20 process. International students can work on campus up to 20 hours a week.

More than 130 majors and programmes in six academic colleges, including the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Bachelor's degrees that USU describes as unique in Utah include aerospace engineering, entrepreneurship, international business, music therapy and religious studies. Courses are offered at the Logan main campus, 30 statewide locations and online (60+ online degrees). International F-1 students must take most classes face to face; certificate programmes are not available to them.

The graduate school, one of the oldest and largest in Utah, offers more than 130 master's and doctoral degrees. Almost 20 are available across Utah or online, and USU offers the only distance-delivered doctoral degrees in the state. International graduate applicants contact graduate admissions directly.

Admission Requirements

  • Online undergraduate application and a non-refundable US$50 fee (no waivers for international applicants)
  • Official secondary school transcripts covering the last three years, with certified English translations; minimum GPA 2.7 (higher for some majors)
  • University transcripts if applicable; transfers with 24 credits in English from a US college do not need secondary transcripts
  • Official English proficiency scores, sent at least a month before the deadline

After admission: a US$200 enrollment deposit, then the I-20 process with a passport copy, bank statement and Affidavit of Financial Support showing funds for one year.

Language Requirements

One of the following (scores no more than two years old):

  • TOEFL iBT 71, or 4.0 for tests from 21 January 2026
  • IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, minimum 5.0 in each section
  • Duolingo English Test 105
  • Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 169
  • MET 52, SAT EBRW 500 or ACT English 18
  • At least three years of secondary school taught in English, or 24 university credits taught in English in the US

Fees

Estimated costs for international undergraduates at the Logan campus, fall 2026 and spring 2027 (nine months, 12-18 credits per semester):

  • Tuition and fees: US$29,222
  • International student fee: US$250
  • Living expenses: US$8,148
  • Personal expenses: US$8,442
  • Total: US$46,062

This total is also the amount of funding to be shown for the I-20. Some programmes charge extra differential tuition or fees.

Financial Aid

  • Afton B. Tew International Student Scholarship: US$1,000 per year towards non-resident tuition, automatic for new freshmen and transfers with an evaluated GPA of at least 3.85
  • Kim Nam Kyun Scholarship: US$2,000 per year (after admission)
  • International Student Alumni Legacy Nonresident Waiver: one year of non-resident tuition waived for children of USU graduates
  • USU General Scholarships: institutional, private and department scholarships through one application

International students may also work on campus up to 20 hours a week.
