Royal Holloway, University of London, is a university based in Egham, Surrey, England. It was formed from two 19th-century colleges that were among the first in Britain to offer higher education to women: Bedford College, opened in central London in 1849, and Royal Holloway College, opened in Surrey by Queen Victoria in 1886. Both became part of the University of London by 1900 and merged in 1985. According to the university, it is ranked 34th in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025.

Teaching is organised in three faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business and Law; and Science. Study options include:

  • Bachelor's degrees (BA, BSc, BEng, LLB), mostly three years full time
  • Foundation Year and Placement Year options
  • One-year taught master's degrees (MA, MSc)
  • Research degrees, including PhDs of four years full time
  • Distance learning courses
  • Postgraduate courses taught in central London

Students come from 130 countries. Undergraduates apply online through UCAS. Accommodation is available both on and off campus, including halls of residence and options in central London.

Deadlines

Postgraduate taught courses, 2027 entry:

  • Courses starting in January 2027: apply by 7 December 2026; later applications are considered case by case
  • Courses starting in September 2027: apply by 27 June 2027 for a decision by 16 July, or by 30 July 2027 for a decision by 13 August
  • Final deadlines for September 2027: 20 August 2027 for international applicants and 27 August 2027 for home applicants
