SIT Study Abroad is strictly specialized in the design and organization of summer and semester programs in more than 40 countries in Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The organization is a pioneer in experiential, field-based study abroad. The programs are unique with the fact that they offer the opportunity for undergraduate research through an Independent Study Project or Case Studies. They also strive for a full cultural immersion through fieldwork, intensive language classes, and urban and rural homestays with local families. The School for International Training was established in 1964 as a training institute for Peace Corps volunteers. It is a non-profit learning institution and is acknowledged by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges via its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. The mission of the school is to prepare the learners to be experts and effective intercultural leaders. To achieve this mission, the institution offers study abroad programs for bachelors, masters, certificates, and professionals courses that are field-based. These programs are offered for a number of courses such as sustainable development, international education, and peacebuilding and conflict transformation among others. The institute also offers summer and semester programs for undergraduate learners in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Europe. Students get the opportunity to learn outside the classroom setting which enables them to evaluate some of the issues affecting local societies in the world.
