Albany State University (ASU) is a historically black university (HBCU) in Albany, Georgia, and part of the University System of Georgia. It was founded in 1903 by Joseph Winthrop Holley as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute, began offering graduate degrees in 1981 and took its current name in 1996. In the 2010s it was consolidated with Darton State College, a former two-year college with a strong focus on nursing and health sciences.

ASU offers certificates, associate, bachelor's and master's degrees and an Education Specialist degree through four academic units:

  • College of Business, Education, & Professional Studies
  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • Graduate School (MBA, MEd, MPA, MSW, nursing and criminal justice, among others)

International applicants apply online with a USD 25 fee, submit transcripts with certified English translations and, if they are non-native English speakers, proof of English proficiency such as TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo. ASU operates campus residence halls with housing applications opening each term.
