Georgia College & State University (GCSU, also Georgia College) is a public university in Milledgeville, Georgia, less than a two-hour drive from Atlanta, and the state's designated liberal arts university within the University System of Georgia. Founded in 1889, it has more than 7,300 students, a student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1, and three out of four classes have fewer than 30 students. Every student is guaranteed access to experiential learning such as undergraduate research, internships, study abroad and leadership programmes.

GCSU offers more than 30 undergraduate majors and over 40 graduate programmes and certificates, at bachelor's, master's, specialist and doctoral level. Undergraduate colleges include:

  • College of Business & Technology
  • College of Education
  • College of Health Sciences, including the School of Nursing

International applicants can apply with the Common App or the university's own application; the International Education Center reviews foreign documents and converts grades to US equivalents. Students live in seven residence halls on Central Campus or in The Village Apartments on West Campus, two miles away and linked by shuttle.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate applicants (Common App or GCSU application) must document:

  • Completion of the foreign equivalent of a US college-preparatory secondary programme
  • SAT or ACT scores if they have no university transfer credit (unless waived)
  • For transfers with 30 or more semester credits, a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • English proficiency
  • Sufficient financial support on the Declaration of Finances

Graduate applicants need the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree and must meet the programme's GPA and test requirements, show English proficiency and provide the Declaration of Finances.

Language Requirements

Undergraduate minimums (one of):

  • TOEFL iBT 69 (4 for tests from 21 January 2026)
  • IELTS 6.0
  • SAT Reading + Writing 480 or ACT English 17
  • PTE Academic 53

Graduate minimums: TOEFL iBT 79 (4.5 from 21 January 2026), IELTS 6.5 or PTE Academic 58. Students waived from the SAT or ACT must still prove English proficiency.

Housing

GCSU has seven residence halls at the heart of Central Campus and The Village Apartments on West Campus, two miles away. The fully equipped apartments are open to undergraduate and graduate students, and a shuttle runs regularly between the two campuses. The Village has a pool.
