Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is a public university near Barcelona, in Catalonia, with its campus in Bellaterra. It offers bachelor's degrees, master's and postgraduate programmes and doctorates through its faculties and schools, and it belongs to the ECIU European university alliance. The UAB is ranked 211th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and 175th in the THE World University Rankings 2027. The university cites 4,500 international exchanges and 10,500 professional internships among its figures.

The UAB also produces massive open online courses (MOOCs). In March 2013 it joined the Coursera platform, as the first Spanish public university to do so, and it has since produced around 100 MOOCs, from Egyptology and pre-calculus to psychological first aid and video game design. It was also the first to publish a MOOC in Catalan on Coursera.

Since August 2025 Coursera only gives free access to the first module of each course. To keep its MOOCs open, the UAB is also publishing them in its own REO repository, where they can be followed free of charge but without a certificate.
