Admission to the PhD programmes is through calls for applications issued around March/April each year, with an online application form and an admission interview. Applicants need a master's or specialist degree, or a foreign qualification declared equivalent or giving access to a PhD in the country where it was obtained; candidates who will obtain their degree by 31 October of the year of application may also apply.
English is required because all PhD lessons are taught in English. No certificate is needed: applicants self-certify their level in the online application, and the selection committee checks it at the admission interview.
IMT has a residential campus in the historic centre of Lucca. Its three sites (San Ponziano, San Francesco and the Via Brunero Paoli residence) include dormitories and a canteen, and the San Francesco residential campus has a kitchenette and a coin-operated laundry.
