University, Graduate school in Zaragoza, Spain
The Universidad de Zaragoza is the university of Zaragoza, in Aragon, with faculties also in Huesca and Teruel. Its history goes back to 10 September 1542, when Emperor Charles V raised the city's school of arts to a "general university of all sciences"; the new university opened in 1583. In 1927 it created the Jaca Summer Courses for teaching Spanish, which the university describes as the first in Spain. Santiago Ramón y Cajal studied there.
The university has more than 30,000 students at nine sites and offers:
- 56 bachelor's degrees (grados)
- 64 master's degrees
- 50 doctoral programmes
- Continuing education courses
Research is carried out in 171 research groups and 14 institutes and research centres, one of them accredited as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, and the library holds more than one million volumes. In the last academic year, 3,901 students from 123 countries studied at the university, which has international mobility and visiting-student programmes. Its free Accommodation Service lists flats and rooms for rent and links to halls of residence (colegios mayores).

Housing
The university's Accommodation Service is free. It publishes a listing of flats and rooms for rent, with the number of rooms, price, location and contact person; rental agreements are made directly between the student and the owner. The service also links to halls of residence (colegios mayores), the Zaragoza Vivienda programme for university students and the Vivir y Compartir programme, and has separate information for the Teruel campus.
