The University of Georgia (UGA) is a public university founded in 1785, which describes itself as the birthplace of public higher education in America. It is a land- and sea-grant university, and its main campus borders downtown Athens, Georgia. Its motto is "to teach, to serve, and to inquire into the nature of things".
UGA offers more than 142 fields of study and has a student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1. Students can choose from:
- Undergraduate and graduate degrees, including combined bachelor's and master's degrees completed in five years
- An honors college
- More than 130 study abroad programmes
- Experiential learning and research opportunities
The university leads interdisciplinary research in areas such as global health and medicine, education and agriculture. Campus life includes more than 800 student organisations and the Georgia Bulldogs athletics teams.
UGA treats as international applicants students who are not US citizens or permanent residents and will study on a temporary non-immigrant visa, such as an F-1 visa. International first-year applicants must show English proficiency, and immigration services are available at UGA. The application process is student-managed, so applicants are responsible for following requirements and deadlines.
