The University of West Georgia (UWG) is a public university in the US state of Georgia, with campuses in Carrollton and Newnan. It traces its history back to 1906 and has more than 16,000 students from 32 states and 41 countries, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1. According to the university, U.S. News & World Report ranks it third in Georgia for social mobility.

Admission Requirements

  • Online application with supporting documents; non-refundable application fee (fee waivers are not usually available to international applicants)
  • Official transcripts sent directly by the applicant's school, preferably electronically to [email protected]
  • Foreign transcripts are evaluated by the office in most cases; otherwise an evaluation by a NACES or AICE member may be requested
  • SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 480, Math 440) or ACT (English or Reading 17, Math 17); the test may be waived
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • After admission: financial documentation to receive the I-20 or DS-2019 and apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa

Admission is on a rolling basis. International undergraduates must take at least 12 credit hours per semester.

Language Requirements

Minimum English scores for most programmes:

  • TOEFL iBT: 3.5 (69 for tests taken before 2026)
  • IELTS Academic: 6.0 overall
  • PTE: 53
  • Cambridge English (B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): 169

Duolingo is not accepted. The requirement can be waived for applicants who completed a degree taught in English in an English-based education system.

Financial Aid

International students are encouraged to complete the UWG General Scholarship Application. They may also qualify for private scholarships or an out-of-state tuition waiver.

Housing

International students can live on campus in furnished rooms with wifi, managed by Housing and Residence Life. Dine West runs buffet-style cafeterias and fast-food outlets on campus and offers meal plans.
