The city had 152,150 registered residents on 1 January 2025, according to the municipal population figures of Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), and the city council notes that it is home to half of the population of La Rioja. The Camino de Santiago pilgrim route crosses the city.

For students, Logroño is a medium-sized city where daily life is easy to manage on foot. It suits students who want a public university or a higher design school in a calm setting, and families looking for an international primary school.

The Universidad de La Rioja (UR) is a public university, created by a state law published in 1992, according to Spain's official register of universities (RUCT). Its bachelor's degrees (grados) now include a degree in Medicine. The UR also runs Spanish courses for international students, so a semester of language study and a degree can take place at the same institution.

The Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR) is a private university with its registered address in Logroño; the RUCT records its recognition by a La Rioja regional decree published in 2009.

The Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja (ESDIR) teaches four-year degrees in Graphic, Interior, Fashion and Product Design, as well as master's programmes in footwear design, packaging for the food and wine industry, and spaces for fashion. Its building, the former school of industrial arts and crafts, recently turned 100. Classes are taught in Spanish, and Erasmus students can take a free Spanish course when they arrive.

For younger pupils, Montessori Schoolhouse Logroño is a private, secular, co-educational American international school for children aged 15 months to 12 years.

We have not found an official source with current rent figures for Logroño, so we give no price range here. According to ESDIR, the two common options for students are halls of residence and a room in a shared flat. The school lists several residences, among them Micampus Logroño, a mixed residence with 179 places about 12 minutes on foot from the school, with rooms that have a private bathroom and kitchen, and the residence of IES La Laboral in nearby Lardero, with 160 places and urban buses to the centre every 15 minutes. Other residences in the centre are run by religious orders, and several of them take women only.

The city council's Logroño Bus app, launched in September 2026, sells single tickets and tops up the bonobús (multi-trip card); a ticket bought in the app is valid for 30 minutes on any urban bus once its QR code is generated. Fares are published in the app and on the new urban transport website.

Getting around and daily life
