About Valladolid

Valladolid is the largest city in Castile and León, in north-western Spain, with 302,614 inhabitants on 1 January 2025 according to the official municipal register figures published by the National Statistics Institute (INE). It lies on the high plateau of the Castilian meseta, about 200 kilometres north-west of Madrid. For students it is a mid-sized university city with a long academic tradition and a compact historic centre.

Students come to Valladolid for degrees at its public and private universities, for Spanish courses run by the university itself, and for specialised higher education in design and drama. The city is also close enough to Madrid for weekend trips.
