The Università della Calabria (UniCal, University of Calabria) is a university with a residential campus on the hill of Arcavacata, near Cosenza, in Calabria. According to the university, it has 14 departments offering 82 bachelor's and master's degree courses, 10 doctoral schools and 22 postgraduate master's, and more than 800 international students from 78 countries live on campus.
Teaching is mostly in Italian, but several master's degrees are taught fully or partly in English:
- Finance and Insurance (in English)
- Computer Science (in English)
- Modern Philology, Italian Studies curriculum (partly in English)
- Management Engineering, Industrial Management and Innovation curriculum (partly in English)
The university also offers bachelor's and single-cycle degrees, PhD courses, medical specialisation schools and first- and second-level postgraduate master's. Through the UnicalAdmission call, non-EU students living abroad can apply early for master's degrees; for 2026-2027 UniCal awarded 132 scholarships covering tuition, free board and lodging and an allowance of €3,600. All international students can take an 80-hour intensive Italian language and culture course before each semester. The Welcome Office helps with airport pick-up, visas, residence permits, tax code and health insurance. The campus has student residences (quartieri) with canteens, libraries, a language centre, a health centre and a sports centre; places are assigned through the annual right-to-study call.

Other master's degrees are taught in Italian. UniCal also offers PhD courses, medical specialisation schools, first- and second-level university master's, higher education courses of 10 to 25 credits and summer/winter schools; the 2026/2027 call for master's and higher education courses closes on 15 November 2026.
Non-EU citizens living abroad apply for two-year master's degrees through UnicalAdmission, a public selection for early admission to English- and Italian-taught courses with places reserved for international students, which also awards scholarships. The call for the 2027/2028 academic year is expected to be published on the UnicalAdmission page around January 2027. Most degree courses are taught in Italian; four master's degrees are taught fully or partly in English. Fees for the 2026/2027 academic year: the standard contribution is progressive, based on the ISEE-Università income certificate, in four instalments. International students not eligible for a scholarship pay according to the ISEE-U parificato certificate or, if it is not available, a flat-rate fee of €1,000 (including the right-to-study tax and the annual contribution), payable in instalments. Recipients of Italian government scholarships pay €16.50.
For the 2026-2027 academic year the University of Calabria awarded 132 scholarships to international students enrolled in master's degrees through UnicalAdmission; the scholarship covered tuition fees, free board and lodging and an allowance of €3,600. In addition, according to the university, its Residential Centre offers around 6,000 grants each year, worth a total of €20 million. Recipients of Italian government scholarships pay a reduced fee of €16.50.
The campus has student residences (quartieri) such as Chiodo, Maisonnettes, Martensson, Molicelle, Monaci and San Gennaro, with apartments of single and double rooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom; some also have studio flats. Most have Wi-Fi, laundry and common study and leisure rooms, with canteens nearby. Places are assigned through an online application under the annual right-to-study call (Bando Diritto allo studio).
