The Università per Stranieri "Dante Alighieri" di Reggio Calabria (UNIDA) is a university for foreigners in Reggio Calabria, at Via del Torrione 95. It received legal recognition from the Italian Ministry of University and Research in 2007. Through its teaching and research it promotes knowledge of Italian language, culture and institutions, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean region, and it concentrates on the social sciences and languages through its Department of Social and Educational Sciences of the Mediterranean Area (DiSSFAM).
The academic offer includes bachelor's and master's degrees, first- and second-level postgraduate master's, an international PhD and advanced training courses. Degree programmes active for 2026-2027 include:
- Scienze della Società e del Servizio Sociale (bachelor's, social work)
- Scienze e tecniche psicologiche (bachelor's, psychology)
- Politiche per l'innovazione e l'inclusione sociale - POLIS (master's)
- Lingue e traduzione per la comunicazione internazionale (master's, translation)
Its school of Italian language and culture for foreigners runs courses from level A1 to C2 of the CEFR all year round, lasting one to six months, with 20 academic hours a week and a monthly exam for a certificate of the level reached. UNIDA also issues the Ce.Co.L. certificate of competence in Italian as a second language and the CEDILS certificate for teaching Italian to foreigners. The CE.S.A.S.S. centre assists foreign students with a student card, health care, cultural activities and study grants.
