TU Wien (Technische Universität Wien) is a university of technology in the centre of Vienna, Austria, with its main address at Karlsplatz 13. It describes itself as Austria's largest research and educational institution in technology and the natural sciences, and its history goes back to 1815. More than 4,000 scientists work in five main research areas at eight faculties, and more than 26,000 students of 122 nationalities are enrolled in its 62 degree programmes.

  • Bachelor's programmes (six semesters, Bachelor of Science), generally taught in German
  • Master's programmes in German and in English, including a new Master's in Aeronautical Engineering

Admission to Computer Science, Architecture and Spatial Planning bachelor's programmes requires an entrance exam; the other bachelor's programmes start with an orientation phase. Some master's programmes have a selection procedure. International students can join TU Wien as exchange students for one or more semesters, and the Admission Office is the first point of contact for applications.

Bachelor's programmes last six semesters, are generally taught in German and lead to a Bachelor of Science (BSc). Places are limited in Architecture, Computer Science and Spatial Planning.

  • Technische Chemie, Technische Mathematik and Technische Physik
  • Umweltingenieurwesen (Environmental Engineering)
  • Verfahrenstechnik (Process Engineering)

Admission

  • Bachelor's: entrance exam for Computer Science, Architecture and Spatial Planning; an orientation phase (PRe-phase) for the other programmes. The procedure depends on whether the applicant holds the Austrian Matura or a secondary school qualification from abroad
  • Master's: some programmes have a selection procedure; admission depends on whether the previous degree is from TU Wien or another Austrian or international university
  • Doctorate: sufficient previous education at TU Wien or another university

Other routes include the Studienberechtigungsprüfung (for applicants without a school-leaving certificate) and nostrification of foreign degrees.
