English

Suffolk University’s English program is aimed at students that love language and the written word. It is designed for people who would rather read a book than see the movie. As an English major, students will read and become familiar an assortment of texts and literary genres. They will analyse intricate material and think analytically. In addition, they will effectively present their ideas verbally and in creative writing. English majors at Suffolk who take a concentration in literature achieve a wide understanding of literary customs in English and develop an erudite approach to understanding important texts using a variety of contexts. If students take a concentration in creative writing, they will produce original work and receive precious feedback from their contemporaries in workshops. No matter which concentration a student takes, all English majors learn to value the written word as an art form and as a vital demonstration of culture.
