Literature and Languages is the University of Surrey's department for English literature, creative writing, film studies, modern languages, linguistics, intercultural communication and translation studies. The department carries out interdisciplinary research in literature, languages, linguistics and intercultural communication. Students can take part in the university's Professional Training placement scheme and can study or work abroad during their degree. Undergraduate applications go through UCAS. International students who do not meet the direct entry requirements can take an International Foundation Year at the University of Surrey International Study Centre and then progress to a degree; the university also publishes English language requirements and offers English language courses. The university has 5,750 rooms of its own, and new undergraduate and postgraduate students are guaranteed a place if they apply by the relevant deadlines.

The University of Surrey has 5,750 rooms of its own in Guildford, including en-suite rooms, single-sex accommodation, studio flats, shared rooms and single rooms, in several price bands. All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk and chair, reading lamp, bookshelf and storage.
Undergraduates holding a firm or insurance offer and new postgraduate students starting in September are guaranteed a place, as long as they apply by the relevant deadlines. Applications for the 2026-27 academic year are made through the university's accommodation portal.
