Study in Oxford, The United Kingdom

Study in Oxford, The United Kingdom

There is a level of pride and privilege that surpasses excellence, and there are only a few places in the world capable of obtaining such a reputation. Oxford is one such place. This centuries-old city has established itself time and time again as one of the greatest educational cities in the world. Students flock there for the ultimate in higher learning and other global cities strive to match it. Yet, no other place ever quite attains Oxford’s level of educational prowess.

Oxford is almost synonymous with higher education. The city is soaked in universities, colleges and other institutions specializing in both higher and further education. No matter your desire or position, you are almost guaranteed to find instruction at Oxford. Many colleges offer as diverse a range of courses as the larger universities, at both an undergraduate and a graduate level. Even these colleges sometimes possess even smaller schools specializing in areas of art, engineering or other subjects. Of course, the city is also home to the world-famous University of Oxford, which can date its instruction back for over 900 years.

What students will find interesting in Oxford is that, though the cultural and historic sites include typical institutions like museums, galleries and churches, even the colleges themselves are considered historic landmarks worthy of sightseeing. After picking up fresh food at a local market or tasting some multiethnic cuisine, students can enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional pub – and if students get antsy, there’s plenty of bicycling, boating and other activities to keep them entertained.

Other considerations for future students of Oxford include:
  • Majority of courses taught in English.
  • Some institutions are religiously affiliated

Major Fields of Study in Oxford

There is one main institute of learning in Oxford – the University of Oxford. Most studies pursued in the city will depend upon what this university offers in its coursework. Other schools will only amount to smaller specialty academies or English-learning institutes. Luckily, the University of Oxford has a broad range of over 30 colleges, all of which either offer general studies or concentrate in specific academic areas.

As a result of the University of Oxford’s dominance on the higher educational market, and the diversity of colleges beneath the university system, it is difficult to pinpoint exact studies that represent the area. Law and literature have famous roots in the city but do not seem overwhelm other studies in any significant way. Science and medicine, for example, receive as much attention as legal studies. Oxford seems to be one of the few idealistic cities where a student can be comfortable studying anything from game design to molecular biology.
