The Rovira i Virgili University was created from the existing universities of Reus and Tarragona in 1991, and was assigned to the University of Barcelona. The Universitat Rovira i Virgili was formed from the already existing university faculties and schools in Catalonia, in 1991, by the Parliament of Catalonia. Its main purpose was to contribute to the social and economic development of the region, whilst also integrating an international approach in its teaching and courses.
