The world that we know today is made of people from different cultural backgrounds. Communication tools, like the internet and TV, have provided an easily accessible platform to share each others culture and beliefs across huge distances. Various corporates like banks and service sector companies have recognized the need to understand the local culture.  All these have resulted in Ethnology being a popular stream among the younger students. The study of Ethnology means understanding the broader range of general, social and cultural anthropology. 

The study will facilitate students with a unique opportunity of staying rooted to traditional and cultural anthropology.  It also covers the study of various races – their language, the ethnic beliefs, geographical and political influences, religions and the socio – economic aspects. The course will cover the introduction of ethnological analysis and also explanation on the society past and present. 

On completion of the course, the students would have understood the various dimensions of the cultural environment that we live in. These include - the ethnological research, the methods and the perspectives on the society and its culture; the various forms of culture prevalent; the various processes of cultural transformation, the nation building and the modernity in the current society in various geographical regions; the processes of globalization and the multiculturalism as political idea; the organization of heritage and culture in select areas; development of languages and the reflection of influence; rituals and rites practiced by various races and ethnic groups; the influence of social and economic conditions across various regions and the evolution of modern times; the development of a political outlook; the cuisines and flavors of various regions; the festivities and cultural events; the global communal integration; cultural and geographical boundaries – development and changes caused through the various ages; tools and technologies; methods and techniques to measure development and progress; extinct races – a study; various case studies

Career options:

Career options are plenty, and an ethnologist is expected to perform comparative studies of diversified cultures or certain specific aspects of cultures of people who are alive and also of those people who existed in the past, so as to determine the historical relations, arriving at typological classifications, and making generalizations which is typically concerned with various cultural processes and different human behaviors, undertaking studies of various cultures of societies, specifically the societies which are not westernized and preindustrial which includes political and social organization, economics, religion, traditions and mythology, artistic and intellectual life.

Formulating general laws related to cultural development, rules which are generally required for both cultural and social behavior.
 
Skills & Experience expected:

Applicant should have completed education of at least secondary level or should have completed standards of matriculation/intermediate. They should have taken subjects such as mathematics, arts, and languages and also should have a score in the subject based on an approved test.

Organizing and retrieving of information in a logical and systematic manner, integrating information from sources which are multifaceted, conducting both internet and library research, working in teams,  especially in laboratory and fieldwork situations, using statistics for analyzing  and interpretation of data,  effective communications  of ideas and data, scheduling of time effectively .
