Detailed training in foot and ankle pathology is required to respond to the needs of patients. In a few years, we have gone from two or three techniques that resolve 95% of forefoot conditions to over 200. Hallux rigidus and metatarsalgia, flat feet, hallux valgus, high arches and ankle arthropathy are just a few. Advancement is fast and new technologies are putting precise, better developed and highly resolutive tools into professional hands. Techniques like arthroscopy, osteotomies, major corrections and prosthetic surgery require detailed training. In an effort to meet modern challenges, we require progressive, regulated training founded on scientific knowledge and the expertise of accredited food and ankle practitioners. The Integrated Health Consortium, with its wide-ranging portfolio of foot and ankle services, and UIC Barcelona University have developed an ambitious detailed training programme: the Master’s Degree in Foot and Ankle Pathology and Surgery.

This master’s degree, via case studies, workshops and simulation, offers students the finest tools, allowing them to obtain the skills neededfor diagnosing and treating anterior segment pathology. UIC Barcelona works with the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, which has cutting-edge diagnostic instruments, a world-renowned faculty, exclusive treatments and a big caseload. The aims of the Master’s Degree in Pathology and Surgery of the Anterior Segment of the Eye are: To teach students through procedures for diagnosing anterior segment pathology; To give participants the skills needed for medically and surgically treating the diagnosed ocular disorders; and For students to concentrate in the most predominant pathologies of the anterior segment of the eye.

Football is currently the most widely played sport in the world. In recent years, there has been a massive increase in regards both the number of players and the injuries that happen. In our region, Catalonia, there are estimated 150,000 federation members and around 26,000 injuries happen each year. The injuries that arise in football are distinctive in terms of their presentation, treatment and recovery. Consequently, the basic training obtained by traumatologists and sports doctors is inadequate when it comes to completely treating this kind of injury. The Postgraduate Degree in Football Pathology is a highly practical and applied programme intended for specialists from a host of varied health and sports science disciplines (doctors, physiotherapists and sports therapists), who are interested in or work with pathologies resulting from playing football.

Craniomandibular pain (CMP) and orofacial pain (OP) are widespread in the general population since these syndromes incorporate a huge number of pathologies in the craniomandibular and cervical and scapular area. Craniomandibular and orofacial pain comprises some of the most significant symptoms of craniomandibular/cervical muscular pathologies along with temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), primary headaches (trigeminal autonomic headaches, migraines, tension-type headaches) and orofacial neuropathies/neuralgias (mainly trigeminal). This diversity among clinical organisations means it is extremely difficult to perform a differential diagnosis which often can lead to frustration both for patients and the healthcare professionals. It is important to mention that one of the main objectives of UIC is research in all areas of knowledge. This is reflected in the ongoing education performed by new doctors, the growth in scientific publications and the number of research projects commenced annually. By setting up this degree in CMP and OP UIC aims to start up three main lines of research.
