The Education System in Belarus
School education in Belarus consists of primary, basic and secondary school. Basic education is compulsory for all children and a Certificate of Basic Education is awarded after this is completed. Secondary education includes mainstream education or vocational and technical education.
Specialized secondary education lasts for two to four years depending on whether students have followed basic or general secondary education and can be obtained from technicums, technical schools and colleges. Colleges provide advanced specialist training.
There are more than 40 state higher education institutions including universities, academies, institutes, higher colleges and higher technical schools. There are also some non-public higher education institutions.
