The Climate in Colombia


The Climate of Colombia is mostly tropical and isothermal as an effect of its geographical area closes the Equator facing variances among natural regions and depending on the winds, temperature, rainfall, humidity and altitude. Each region holds a mean temperature by the year merely presenting variables found by precipitations throughout rainy season made by the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone.

In Bogotá, the average temperature yearly is 15°C, and the difference between the mean of the warmest and coldest months is less than 1°C. Most important, however, is the everyday variation in temperature, from 5°C at nighttime to 17°C throughout the day. The climate of eastern regions experiences rain from March to September.

Generally, the best time to visit Colombia is from December-March. During this season in the coastal resorts the cost increase consequently, so travel in the off-season which is August-September will be less costly. Heavy rain can fall from May-July and October-December although they are normally followed by bright sunlight. As a whole, country’s climate is averagely unpredictable. Some cities, such as Medellin , have a tremendous spring-like climate throughout the year.
