Universidad de Guadalajara
University, Graduate school in Guadalajara, Mexico
The Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG) is a university in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, organised as the Red Universitaria de Jalisco, a network that brings upper-secondary and higher education to the whole state. Its history goes back to the Real Universidad de Guadalajara, inaugurated on 3 November 1792 as the second university of New Spain and modelled on the University of Salamanca. The university was re-established in 1925 after an absence of 65 years.
UdeG offers more than 300 programmes, from upper-secondary school (bachillerato) to technical degrees, bachelor's degrees (licenciaturas), specialisations, master's and doctoral programmes, some of them listed in the national PNPC-CONACYT quality register. Six thematic university centres cover:
- Art, architecture and design (CUAAD)
- Biological and agricultural sciences (CUCBA)
- Economics and administration (CUCEA)
- Exact sciences and engineering (CUCEI)
- Health sciences (CUCS)
- Social sciences and humanities (CUCSH)
Regional university centres operate in towns such as Puerto Vallarta, Lagos de Moreno, Ciudad Guzmán, Tepatitlán de Morelos and Tonalá, and the Sistema de Universidad Virtual (UDG Virtual) offers online study. The website sets out admission requirements, official calendars and the rules for applicants with studies completed abroad, and student services include an office for internships abroad.
