About Seville

Seville (Sevilla) is the capital of Andalusia, in the south of Spain. It had 689,423 registered residents on 1 January 2025, according to the Spanish statistics institute (INE). For students it offers the services of a large city with a historic centre that is still easy to explore on foot.

Students come to Seville for Spanish courses, for university study and exchange semesters, and for the city's strong traditions in the arts, from fine art and design to music, drama and flamenco. Spanish is the language of daily life, and the city has a long history of hosting study abroad students, especially from the United States.

Studying in Seville

Our directory lists 32 active schools in Seville, including 8 universities and higher-education centres, 9 language schools, 5 vocational and professional training centres, 5 primary and secondary schools, 2 online and distance-learning providers and 2 study abroad centres. The Universidad de Sevilla traces its university status to 1505, when Pope Julius II allowed its founding college to award degrees in Theology, Philosophy, Law, Medicine and Arts. The Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO), founded in 1997, is a younger public university named after an 18th-century Peruvian intellectual; its international centre runs Spanish language and culture programmes for foreign students.

Seville also has a wide range of higher arts education. The public Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño (EASD Sevilla) traces its origins to 1660, when the painters Murillo, Valdés Leal and Zurbarán founded a school of fine arts. The Conservatorio Superior de Música "Manuel Castillo" became a state conservatory in 1933, and the city also has a higher school of drama and private design and fashion schools. For families, there are international schools such as the Lycée Français International de Séville.
