The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is a post-secondary institute based in Burnaby, British Columbia (Canada), that has trained professionals since 1964. It describes itself as different from a college or university: it offers practical, applied education taught by instructors with direct experience in their field. Nearly 45,000 students study at its campuses: Burnaby, Downtown, the Marine Campus, the Aerospace Technology Campus and Annacis Island.
BCIT awards diplomas, certificates, bachelor's and master's degrees and microcredentials in six areas:
- Applied and natural sciences
- Business and media
- Computing and IT
- Engineering
- Health sciences
- Trades and apprenticeship
International students can enter through full-time cohort programmes, flexible learning studies or English language and academic upgrading, and eligible programmes qualify for a Canadian study permit and post-graduation work permit. Applications are made online through EducationPlannerBC; accepted cohort students pay a non-refundable CAD 6,000 commitment fee that counts towards first-term tuition. BCIT has more than 800 student rooms on the Burnaby Campus, including the Tall Timber residence opened in Fall 2025.

International applicants to full-time cohort programmes follow these steps:
- Choose a programme and check its start dates, deadlines and type (competitive or first qualified, first offered)
- Meet the entrance requirements; education from outside Canada may need an International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES) assessment, and documents must be in English or certified translations
- Apply online through EducationPlannerBC (EPBC)
- Once accepted, pay the non-refundable CAD 6,000 commitment fee, credited to first-term tuition, to receive the IRCC Letter of Acceptance for the study permit (and a Provincial Attestation Letter if required)
Upgrading, assessment testing, partner English schools and an alternate admissions pathway help applicants who do not yet meet the requirements.
BCIT has more than 800 student rooms on the Burnaby Campus. Tall Timber Student Housing, opened in Fall 2025, offers self-contained studio rooms and connected single rooms, while the older townhouses house 12 students each in private rooms with shared common areas. Students apply for housing online.
