Capilano University (CapU) is a university in British Columbia, Canada, with campuses in North Vancouver and Squamish. In the 2025-26 academic year it had 9,282 students in for-credit programmes, according to the university.

It offers nearly 100 programmes, including bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and post-baccalaureate programmes, in five areas:

  • Arts and Sciences
  • Business and Professional Studies
  • Education, Health and Human Development
  • Fine and Applied Arts (design, film, animation, performing arts)
  • Global and Community Studies (kinesiology, tourism, outdoor recreation)

International students apply through EducationPlannerBC and are supported by the Centre for International Experience (CIE); exchange students are also accepted. Students whose English is below the required level can join the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme. On-campus residence is available at both campuses, and new international students may qualify for the International Entrance and Performance Award, a tuition reduction per credit.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply online through EducationPlannerBC; the non-refundable application fee is C$135 and covers two programmes
  • Upload transcripts and supporting documents as PDF, with certified English translations if needed
  • Some programmes require a portfolio, interview or audition
  • Admitted students confirm their place with a tuition deposit and then receive a letter of acceptance and, if applicable, a Provincial Attestation Letter
  • A study permit is required for programmes longer than six months

Language Requirements

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, no band below 6
  • TOEFL iBT: 83 (Fall 2026 applicants and earlier tests); for tests taken after 21 January 2026, 4.5 overall with no section below 4.0
  • CAEL: 70
  • PTE Academic: 56
  • Duolingo English Test: 125, no sub-score below 115 (accepted temporarily)

Test results must be less than two years old. Students below the required level can take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme.

Financial Aid

International Entrance and Performance Award (IEPA): eligible new international students admitted for Spring, Summer or Fall 2027 receive a tuition reduction of CAD $150 per credit with at least 12 credits per semester (CAD $1,800 per semester, up to CAD $18,000 for a four-year degree). It requires an admission GPA of 2.50 and a term GPA of 3.50 to continue, and may close early depending on availability. Housing

CapU Residence offers on-campus housing for full-time students at the North Vancouver and Squamish campuses, with live-in residence advisors. In Squamish, eligible new students living on campus may receive up to $500 in tuition credits. Places are limited.
