The Cégep de Granby is a French-language college (cégep) at 235 rue Saint-Jacques in Granby, Quebec, Canada. In fall 2026 it had 2,312 students, a record according to the cégep. It offers diplomas of college studies (DEC): two-year pre-university programmes leading to university, and three-year technical programmes that lead to employment or to related university studies. It also offers attestations (AEC) and houses the École nationale de la chanson, a school for singer-songwriters.

  • Pre-university: arts, letters and communication, natural sciences, social sciences, double DEC
  • Nursing, early childhood and special education
  • Mechanical, industrial and electrical engineering technology
  • Computer science, administration and management, tourism

International applicants apply through the regional admission service (SRAM) and must pass a French test unless they hold a Quebec secondary diploma or come from France. For 2026-27, additional international tuition ranges from CAD 7,575 to CAD 11,740 per full-time term depending on the programme; French students do not pay it. A limited number of fee exemptions and excellence scholarships are managed by the Fédération des cégeps. Through a partnership, students can rent housing in the Pavillon étudiant next to the cégep.

More information about Academic Programs

DEC programmes taught in French, combining general education (language, philosophy, physical education) with specialised training:

  • Pre-university: Arts, lettres et communication (3 profiles), Sciences de la nature, Sciences humaines, double DEC in natural and social sciences
  • Technical: nursing, early childhood education, special education, administration and management, computer science, tourism
  • Engineering technology: mechanical, industrial, electrical (automation and control)

Shorter attestations (AEC) include international trade, accounting and event coordination, and the École nationale de la chanson offers an AEC for singer-songwriters.

Admission Requirements

All applications go through the regional admission service (SRAM). Applicants need schooling equivalent to the Quebec secondary diploma (DES) and must meet any programme-specific conditions; SRAM carries out a comparative evaluation of studies done outside Quebec. Processing takes 3 to 5 weeks at SRAM plus 2 to 3 weeks at the cégep. The cégep charges a non-refundable CAD 100 fee to analyse the registration. Once admitted, students apply for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and a study permit, show proof of funds and obtain health, hospital and repatriation insurance; the whole process takes about five months.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in French and a French test is compulsory. Accepted tests and minimum results:

  • Bright: level 3.7
  • TCF tout public: B2 in all parts and at least 467 overall (TCF Québec and TCF Canada not accepted)
  • DELF tout public: B2 and at least 67 overall, or DALF
  • TEF: B2 in all required parts and at least 466 overall

Holders of a Quebec secondary diploma and students from France and its territories are exempt.

Fees

Additional tuition for international students in 2026-27 (CAD per full-time term):

  • Group A (pre-university programmes, tourism, special education, early childhood education, administration, computer science): CAD 7,575
  • Group B (mechanical, industrial and electrical engineering technology, AEC in song): CAD 9,805
  • Group C (nursing): CAD 11,740

Students also pay registration fees each term (CAD 297.13 for fall 2026) and a one-time CAD 100 analysis fee. French students are exempt from the additional international fees. The cégep estimates the average cost of living in Granby at CAD 3,436 per month for a single person renting.

Program Duration

Technical DECs last 6 full-time terms (3 years) when starting in fall, or 7 terms (3.5 years) when starting in winter; pre-university DECs last 4 terms (2 years), or 5 terms with a winter start. The fall term runs from August to December and the winter term from January to May; classes usually take place between 8 am and 6 pm.

Financial Aid

International students are not eligible for Quebec government financial aid. Support programmes for international students, an exemption from the additional tuition fees (so that they pay the same as Quebec students) and excellence scholarships, are managed by the Fédération des cégeps; both are limited in number, and the cégep emails students when the call for applications opens. French students do not pay the additional international fees under a Quebec-France agreement.

Housing

Through a partnership, the cégep offers dozens of secure student units in the Pavillon étudiant at 335-A rue Saint-Jacques, right next to the cégep (contact: [email protected]). Parking nearby costs CAD 50 per month, with limited places. The housing search service of the MRC de la Haute-Yamaska can also help. The cégep estimates average living costs in Granby at CAD 3,436 per month for a single person renting.
