The Cégep de Matane is a college in Matane, in the Gaspésie region of Quebec (Canada). As at every cégep, its programmes lead to the DEC (diplôme d'études collégiales), a state diploma issued by Quebec's Ministry of Higher Education. Teaching takes place in a French-speaking environment.

The college offers two types of DEC programmes, as well as shorter attestations (AEC):

  • Pre-university programmes (two years, preparing for university), e.g. Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts and Communication
  • Technical programmes (three years, leading to work or university), e.g. 3D Animation, Computer Science, Photography, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Tourism and Urban Planning

The Cégep de Matane has welcomed students from French-speaking countries for more than 20 years; over 2,000 have studied there, including on mobility projects with schools in France and Belgium. Students of French nationality are exempt from tuition fees under an agreement between France and Quebec. A student residence is located inside the college building.

Admission Requirements

International applicants apply online through the international student section of the SRACQ (Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec), choosing the Cégep de Matane and a programme. Documents include a birth certificate and transcripts and diplomas from the last three years of secondary school (with a translation if not in French or English). Candidates who are not French citizens must pay a deposit of CA$7,000 before receiving the official admission letter, and full tuition must be paid before 1 June preceding the start of the academic year. After admission, students apply for the immigration documents required to study in Quebec before departure.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in French. Depending on the applicant's situation, a French test may be required; in that case only applications that include proof of passing the test are processed.
