Memorial University of Newfoundland is the university of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, with its main campus in St. John's, the Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, the Marine Institute and a Labrador Campus, as well as online courses. It describes itself as one of Canada's top 10 comprehensive universities.

Memorial offers more than 100 degree programme options in business, education, engineering, human kinetics and recreation, humanities and social sciences, medicine, music, nursing, pharmacy, science and social work. Its location on the North Atlantic shapes its profile: around 40% of its research is ocean-related, the Marine Institute has the world's largest flume tank, and programmes include co-op ocean and naval architectural engineering.

International students are supported by the Internationalization Office. Students can start in September, January or May, and international applicants should apply at least 12 weeks before the semester to allow time for the study permit. Applicants from Spain need the Bachillerato with an average of at least 7 in the required subjects and an English test.

Admission Requirements

Students can start in September, January or May; international applicants should apply at least 12 weeks before the semester. Requirements for applicants from Spain:

  • Bachillerato with English, mathematics, a laboratory science, social studies or a modern/classical language, and an elective
  • Minimum average of 7 in the required subjects, passing each one
  • Official English proficiency test result
  • Translated and original-language transcripts (interim copies for early acceptance; certified copies sent to the Office of the Registrar after the exams)

Some programmes are competitive. Applicants with post-secondary studies apply as transfer students.

Language Requirements

International applicants, including those from Spain, must prove English proficiency with an official standardized test result.
