Northern Lakes College (NLC) is a college in northern Alberta, Canada, that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020. It serves communities across more than a quarter of the province, with its main campus in Slave Lake and other locations including Stony Point (Wabasca), Fairview and High Prairie. Courses are offered face to face, blended or through its Supported Distance Learning model, with small classes.

NLC is a Designated Learning Institution and accepts international students; teaching is in English. Student residences are available in Fairview, High Prairie, Slave Lake and Stony Point (Wabasca).

Admission Requirements

International applicants must meet the programme's academic and general admission requirements and English proficiency, and apply at least four months before the programme starts ($50 non-refundable application fee). Transcripts are sent directly by each institution, with certified word-for-word English translations where needed; credentials may need evaluation by IQAS or CICIC, or applicants can take a placement test instead. Funding must be in place two months before the start. After acceptance, students submit their study permit (and co-op work permit if required) and pay a $5,000 deposit; Provincial Attestation Letters are limited.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in English. Applicants whose first language is not English must include proof of English proficiency with the application, using one of several accepted standardised tests; required scores vary by programme and results generally expire after two years. Applicants from some countries are exempt, but the college may still request proof.

Dates and Deadlines

International applications for the Winter term close on 15 October 2026. The deadline for the Fall 2026 term has passed.

Housing

Northern Lakes College has student residences close to campus in Fairview, High Prairie, Slave Lake and Stony Point (Wabasca), with an online residence application. International students are responsible for arranging their own housing.
