Portage College is a publicly funded community college in northeastern Alberta, Canada, board-governed under the Alberta Post-secondary Learning Act and serving the region since 1968. Its three main campuses are in Lac La Biche, Cold Lake and St. Paul, and it also has campuses in Boyle, at the Cold Lake Regional Airport (aerospace) and in First Nations communities including Frog Lake, Saddle Lake and Whitefish (Goodfish) Lake.

The college offers more than 30 certificate and diploma programmes, plus bachelor's degrees delivered with partner institutions through blended learning. Areas include:

  • Academic upgrading and university transfer programmes
  • Arts, business and culinary arts
  • Environmental studies, including a Bachelor of Science with Athabasca University
  • Health, human services and education, including a new Bachelor of Education, Elementary
  • Hairstyling and barbering, trades and technology
  • Micro-credentials, continuing education and online learning

Programmes are offered in person, online, hybrid or multi-access formats, with small class sizes. Portage College is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O111010246767) for international students and offers international scholarships and support from international student representatives. On the Lac La Biche campus students can live in residence hall dorms or furnished townhouses, and family townhouses are also available.

Housing

Portage College has student housing on its Lac La Biche campus:

  • Residence Hall dorms: self-contained rooms for two students with two beds, desks, a kitchenette and full bathroom; laundry in the building
  • Townhouses: fully furnished, shared by four students with their own bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen and washer and dryer
  • Family housing: 66 furnished two- or three-bedroom townhouses, for students living more than 75 km from Lac La Biche

Students must be accepted into a programme before their housing application is processed; places are first come, first served and a security deposit is required.
