Université Sainte-Anne is a French-language university in Nova Scotia (Canada) and, according to the university, the province's only French-language post-secondary institution. It offers university and college-level courses, a French immersion programme and French as a second language training on five campuses: Halifax, Petit-de-Grat, Pointe-de-l'Église (Church Point), Saint-Joseph-du-Moine and Tusket. The main campus is in Church Point, a rural area in south-western Nova Scotia about 260 km from Halifax.

Programmes are taught in French. They include bachelor's degrees in business administration, arts (English, commerce, Acadian studies), biology and education, some with a co-operative education option, and a master's degree in Cultures et espaces francophones. English-speaking students with an intermediate level of French can take the Integrated French Immersion Option and earn a degree while learning French. For learners at all levels there are 5-week spring and summer immersion sessions (in 2027: 16 May to 19 June and 4 July to 7 August).

International students are advised by the Bureau de la francophonie et des affaires internationales. Besides admission, they need a student visa to study in Canada, and bursaries are available for international students.

Admission Requirements

Applicants choose a programme and check its admission criteria, read the application guide (PDF) and apply online, with a separate route for international students. A letter on eligibility and supporting documents is posted in the Omnivox applicant portal, after which international students can apply for a visa and study permit.

Integrated BA/BEd programmes start straight after high school and require a language placement test. The 16-month accelerated BEd track is not open to international applicants.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in French. The Integrated French Immersion Option requires an intermediate level of French (for example a DELF B1 diploma or French immersion at school), and a placement test sets the French as a second language courses. Students with little or no French can start with the spring and summer immersion sessions, which have no prerequisites, or year-round French as a second language courses.

Financial Aid

International students can also receive bursaries from the university. The scholarship application form, where needed, is due by 28 February. Merit scholarships for students coming straight from high school are awarded automatically based on their average. The full list of scholarships and bursaries is on the French version of the website.

Housing

Students in the Integrated French Immersion Option live in a residence or residence section reserved for them. On the spring and summer immersion sessions all students live in on-campus residences, placed by age (adults in separate residences), and eat in the university cafeteria.
