Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology

Cambrian College is a college of applied arts and technology in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, with satellite sites in Espanola, Little Current and Val Caron. It describes itself as the largest college in northeastern Ontario, serving more than 5,000 full-time and part-time students. Since 1967 more than 90,000 students have graduated from Cambrian.

The college offers more than 80 programmes leading to:

All programmes are taught in English. International applicants can meet the language requirement with IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo scores; those who need to improve their English can take the English for Academic Purposes programme before starting a diploma or certificate programme. Applications need notarised official transcripts, with certified translations and an evaluation by a credential evaluator for documents not in English, and a copy of the passport. An international recruitment team, including staff who speak Spanish, guides applicants, and an IELTS test centre operates on the Barry Downe campus in partnership with Humber College.

Admission Requirements

International applicants must meet the general and programme-specific requirements, including senior-level English credits, and are assessed individually. Required documents:

  • Official notarised transcripts
  • Certified translations and a credential evaluation for documents not in English
  • A scanned copy of a valid passport
  • Proof of English proficiency

Students must show sufficient funds for a study permit; if the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) or visa application is unsuccessful, fees are refunded minus a $200 administrative fee.

Language Requirements

Minimum English scores (all programmes are taught in English):

  • Diploma/certificate: IELTS Academic 6.0 (no band under 5.5), TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 58, Duolingo 105-115
  • Graduate certificate: IELTS 6.5 (no band under 6.0), TOEFL iBT 84, PTE 61, Duolingo 120+
  • Degrees: IELTS 6.5 (no band under 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88, PTE 58

Applicants below these levels can take the English for Academic Purposes programme first.
