Trent University is a Canadian university founded in 1964, with campuses in Peterborough and in Oshawa, Ontario. This listing refers to Trent University Durham Greater Toronto Area (Durham GTA), located near Lake Ontario, minutes from downtown Oshawa and about 40 minutes from Union Station in downtown Toronto. According to the university, it has more than 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students, about 2,800 of them in Durham, and it ranked first in Ontario in the undergraduate category of Maclean's University Rankings 2026.

Trent offers more than 100 academic programmes across the arts, sciences and professional fields, including business, computer and data science, forensics, environment and sustainability, nursing, social work, education, law and criminology, as well as master's and doctoral programmes. It also offers online courses, study abroad and an ESL programme (English for University).

International students apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) or, if applying only to Trent, through the International Direct Application. They need a high school diploma, English language proficiency and any programme-specific requirements. Trent International supports students with immigration resources, and the university states that international students can receive up to CAD 60,000 in entrance and other scholarships. The Durham campus has a residence building, and help with off-campus housing is available.

Applicants to several Ontario universities apply through OUAC; those applying only to Trent use the International Direct Application. Intakes are in September, January and May, though not all programmes start in January or May.

Housing

Trent has residences on both campuses. The Durham GTA campus has a new residence and academic building; in Peterborough students can choose traditional or suite-style residences and living learning communities. Help with off-campus housing is offered through a partnership with Places4Students.com.
