Western University is a research-intensive university in London, Ontario (Canada), the largest city in Southwestern Ontario and about a two-hour drive from Toronto. It has more than 42,000 students from 134 countries and, according to the university, is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world by the Center for World University Rankings 2026.

Undergraduates choose from more than 450 combinations of majors, minors and specializations across 11 faculties, and all have access to experiential learning such as internships, placements and co-ops. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies runs master's, doctoral and professional programmes, while the Ivey School of Business has its own MBA and EMBA admissions. Western also offers more than 170 international learning programmes in over 40 countries.

International students apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC), either directly to Western or to Western International College, where a first year helps them meet Western's admission standards. Classes are taught in English; applicants who do not meet the English requirement may be offered a place at the Western English Language Centre. Immigration advisors help with study permits, and first-year students are guaranteed on-campus housing (conditions apply).

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate: apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC), directly to Western or via Western International College. Competitive high school grades are required; some programmes need specific courses or supplemental applications. A study permit is needed for programmes of six months or more; students are encouraged to apply as soon as they receive a conditional offer.

Graduate: online application with transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (with English translation if needed), references, supplemental questions, an application fee and, if applicable, English test scores. Deadlines and minimum requirements vary by programme; Ivey, MBA/EMBA and some health programmes use other application systems.

Language Requirements

Classes are taught in English. Applicants whose first language is not English may need an official English test; those whose scores do not meet Western's requirements may be offered a place at the Western English Language Centre. Graduate applicants send official scores electronically, and the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies verifies English proficiency.

Housing

First-year students are guaranteed on-campus housing (conditions apply). Residences offer 24/7 front desk support, counsellors, workout rooms, dining halls and laundry facilities in every building, as well as living-learning communities. Upper-year students can also live in residence, and there is a guide for international and exchange students.
