Creative cultural industries, which covers the performing arts, music and the audio-visual and publishing industries, are based on a combination of creativity and production. Nowadays, these are cultural sectors which are rapidly growing, and this will continue into the future. Professionals in these areas should understand the work processes linked both to creation (dance, music, production & theatre companies) as well as the production and management of cultural facilities, shows, festivals and commercial products for digital or material production. Because of this, they need not only great understanding with regards to artistic creation and a knowledge of modern trends, but also expertise of the management tools which will allow them to design viable projects and companies. UIC’s Postgraduate Degree in the Management of Creative Cultural Industries, taught in English, delivers this double perspective: it includes the analysis of the creative cultural industries, and the particular work processes it involves, together with providing the specialised tools to manage culture.

Cultural Managers are multi-skilled and multi-disciplinary specialists whose work is carried out in the heart of cultural projects and policies. As well as a lot of cultural knowledge and an interest in art and creativity, these managers need to have detailed knowledge of the work processes included in the management of a project or a cultural organisation: marketing and communication strategies, planning and programming services and products, the search for and administration of financial resources, managing teams of people and the legal problems related to works of art, artists, cultural products and intellectual property. UIC’s Postgraduate Degree in Cultural Management gives the theoretical and hands-on foundations for these management tools as they are used in the different sectors that together make up the wide cultural fabric. This postgraduate programme has two linguistic groups: it is taught in both Spanish and English.

Museum, monument and cultural heritage management requires professionals to have specialist knowledge related to the documentation, exhibition, conservation and dissemination of museum collections and cultural heritage. However, as well as this, it is also vital that professionals are familiar with cultural management work processes: marketing and communication strategies, administering financial resources, planning and programming projects as well as the legal problems related to heritage, museums and intellectual property. Cultural managers who have specialised in museums and cultural heritage should recognise the potential of their heritage-related resources and merge this, firstly, with the needs and background of the prospective audience, and secondly, with the resources available to them, with the goal of designing policies and distribution programmes for heritage which add to the cultural, social and economic growth of the community.
