The Cégep de Sherbrooke is a college (cégep) in Sherbrooke, in southern Quebec, Canada, about 1 h 30 from Montreal, 2 h 30 from Quebec City and 60 km from the US border. More than 5,000 students enrol each year. It offers 32 programmes in the pre-university and technical streams, plus about a dozen programmes leading to an attestation d'études collégiales (AEC). Classes are given in six buildings in Sherbrooke, and the farm management programme is taught at a service point in Coaticook.

Teaching is in French, and international applicants must take a French test. Programmes open to international students include:

  • Pre-university programmes in natural sciences, social sciences, arts, music and dance
  • Technical programmes in engineering technologies, computing, biomedical analysis and biotechnology
  • Technical programmes in administration, early childhood education and respiratory therapy
  • An AEC for nurses trained abroad

Programmes can include credited internships or paid work-study placements. An internationalisation service supports students from abroad, and French students benefit from a France-Quebec agreement on tuition. International students and their partners can also take the full-time French course of Quebec's immigration ministry (MIFI). The campus residence has 221 single rooms, and full-time students use Sherbrooke public transport free of charge.

Admission Requirements

International applicants apply online through the SRAM (Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain), choosing the "Candidat international" option when applying from outside Canada. Required documents:

  • Birth certificate
  • Transcripts for the last three years of secondary school (or equivalent) and the diploma
  • French test results

A valid passport covering the whole study period is strongly recommended. Admitted students receive an admission notice and an invoice that must be paid by the stated date, or the admission is cancelled. They then apply for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and a study permit, which involves biometrics and, for some, a medical exam.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in French. International applicants must take a French test (French nationals are exempt); an insufficient level can lead to refusal, and a French reinforcement course may be required. Minimum scores:

  • Bright Canada: 3.7 (average of both parts)
  • TCF tout public: 484
  • DELF tout public B2: 75.7
  • DALF: 50
  • TEF: 479/699

Rooms are rented for 10 months (full school year) or 5 months (winter session) at CA$350 per month in the 2026-27 school year. Students apply after receiving their admission confirmation, must have tenant insurance and bring their own bedding and kitchenware.
