About Commercial Management Schools and Programs in Madrid, Spain

Commercial management (dirección comercial) covers everything a company does to sell: sales strategy and planning, pricing, distribution channels, market research, key account management and leading a sales team. It sits between marketing, which plans how a product reaches the market, and sales, which turns that plan into revenue. In Madrid it is taught mainly at postgraduate level, by universities and business schools, and also as an official vocational qualification.

How the qualifications are organised

Spanish bachelor's degrees (grados) generally have 240 ECTS credits (four years), and official master's degrees (máster universitario) 60, 90 or 120 credits. Commercial management usually appears in bachelor's degrees in marketing or business administration and in specialised master's degrees, such as the Máster Universitario en Dirección Comercial y Ventas / Master in Commercial and Sales Management of the Universidad Europea de Madrid, listed in the ministry's Registro de Universidades, Centros y Títulos (RUCT). Many business schools also run their own master's programmes (títulos propios), which are not official degrees; the RUCT shows which programmes are.

At vocational level, the official FP qualification is Técnico Superior en Gestión de Ventas y Espacios Comerciales (sales and retail space management), a higher-level cycle (grado superior) of 2,000 hours in the Commerce and Marketing family.

Other schools in our directory, such as ESDEN Business School, IE Business School, Universidad CEU San Pablo, ESEM, EFEM and IDE-CESEM, also list programmes in this field, and CEU FP Madrid and CCC Centro de Estudios offer vocational training. Check on each school's website whether a programme is an official degree or the school's own qualification, and in which language it is taught.

Admission and recognition

Students who finished secondary school outside Spain usually apply first to UNEDasiss, the UNED service that assesses international students' academic records and runs the tests needed to enter a Spanish bachelor's degree. A master's degree requires a previous university degree. Holders of a foreign degree can ask the ministry for a declaration of equivalence (declaración de equivalencia), which certifies the academic level of the degree (bachelor's or master's).

Careers

Graduates work as sales managers, key account managers, sales representatives and commercial agents, sales team coordinators, retail managers and in commercial or marketing departments. TodoFP, the ministry's vocational training portal, lists roles such as sales manager, sales representative and commercial agent for the FP qualification.
