AESA Prep Academy of Barcelona is a small American high school for international students in grades 9 to 12. It is part of the AESA International School System, which started in Austin, Texas, in 2009; the Barcelona programme began in 2016 as a blended learning programme for international athletes and was officially recognised as AESA Prep Academy of Barcelona in June 2020. The campus is in the Pedralbes district of Barcelona, between Oreneta Park and the Collserola Natural Park.
Students follow a US college-preparatory curriculum leading to an American high school diploma. Each year they take Literature, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, plus world languages (Spanish and Catalan), fine arts, physical education, health and communication electives. Honours courses and accelerated tracks are available, and the school has experience with English language learners and students with mild learning differences such as dyslexia and ADHD.
Classes are small, and the flexible model is designed for students who also train in sports or the performing arts; homework is kept low. The school is accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED) and is a member of EPIC, the association of independent private schools of Catalonia. The team supports university applications, including athletic scholarships in the United States. Applications are made through an online form with the required documents.
