Politecnico di Milano is a public science and technology university in Milan that trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. It has been active since 1863 and has campuses in Milan (Milano Leonardo and Milano Bovisa), Cremona, Lecco, Mantova and Piacenza, plus a site in Xi'an. According to the university, it is ranked 157th worldwide by Times Higher Education. Teaching is organised in four schools:

  • Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering
  • Design
  • Civil, Environmental and Land Management Engineering
  • Industrial and Information Engineering

It offers 29 Bachelor of Science (Laurea) and 45 Master of Science (Laurea Magistrale) programmes, many of them taught entirely in English, as well as exchange and double-degree opportunities and honours programmes such as the Alta Scuola Politecnica, run with Politecnico di Torino. Applicants with a foreign school qualification follow specific admission rules checked by the International Students Office; for engineering bachelor's programmes the SAT is one of the accepted entrance tests. University halls of residence in Milan, Lecco, Como and Cremona house both Italian and international students.

Admission Requirements

For the 2026/2027 academic year, applicants with a non-Italian school qualification must meet specific requirements (years of schooling, final grade or an academic suitability test). During test registration they upload their report cards from the last three years of secondary school and their final diploma, or a letter confirming enrolment in the final year; the International Students Office checks these documents. Admission to engineering bachelor's programmes requires an entrance test: Politecnico's TOL (in Italian), or alternatively TOLC-I (Italian), CEnT-S (English) or the SAT (English). Non-EU students living abroad need a student visa.

Language Requirements

Students must show proficiency in the language of their programme before enrolling: Italian for Italian-taught courses (for example a B2 CLIQ certificate) and English for English-taught courses, through an accepted certificate, citizenship of an English-speaking country or a school diploma taught in English. In English-taught bachelor's programmes, Italian is not required for entry, but students must reach B2 in Italian before graduating.

Financial Aid

Students can apply for the Diritto allo Studio Universitario call for university financial aid and other scholarships, which also give access to reduced-rate university accommodation. For international students applying to the BSc in Process Engineering (Cremona) or the BSc in Industrial Engineering (Piacenza), Politecnico di Milano offers specific scholarship opportunities.

Housing

Politecnico di Milano has university halls of residence in Milan, Lecco, Como and Cremona, shared by Italian and international students. Rooms can be obtained at a reduced rate through the DSU (Diritto allo Studio) calls or booked at full rate; there are separate procedures for PhD candidates, visiting PhD students and students with disabilities. Rates, availability and deadlines are published on the university's residences portal.
