You can study dance in the USA at the North Carolina School of Arts

Dance is a form of art whose intention is to orient and produce synchronized body movements and endless exchange of artistic positions of a person’s body on a particular rhythm. Dance is connected with music, content embodiment and emotional images via movements, figures, and choreographic composition. This form of art is used as a means of social communication as well as a technique of individual communication. If you are passionate about dancing, you could consider pursuing it as a study and the best place to do that is in the United States.

Studying dance in the US

Dance as a study requires one to approach the art form from an international, intercultural, and interdisciplinary viewpoint. Studying dance in the US enables students to develop imaginative, technical, and analytical skills, which lead to one having a good stage performance.

Students, both local and international, choosing to study dance in the US have to be ready to challenge their minds and bodies. The dance programs offered in the country expect learners to study the theory, history, and science of their art, and at the same time, develop their physical skills. As a dance student, be prepared to face academic classes, long evenings spent in rehearsal, and a schedule of choreography and technique classes. It will, therefore, be necessary to find a balance between all these so as to excel and get the right qualifications in the field.

Studying dance in the US enables students to express their emotions and ideas through different dance styles, for instance, folk, modern, tap, jazz, ballet, and ethnic dance. Pursuing the study in the US requires students to take classes in the history of dance, choreography, and dance technique. International students pursuing this course in the country can choose either a bachelor of arts (BA) or a bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A) degree. Both degrees prepare learners for careers as choreographers and dancers. The BA option also provides other career choices in therapy, administration, and dance education.

As a dance student, you have to be prepared to spend most of your time rehearsing and practicing. You have to train your body to meet the requirements of new dance techniques. You also have to keep your body in good physical condition. You will be required to learn about methods of preventing injuries, positive body image, and good nutrition. You will also learn different methods of dance notation. These are simply the means of defining movement via abbreviations or written symbols and the most common method is labanotation. This method makes use of symbols to symbolize the precise position of every body part.

Dance students are also advised to acquire experience by assisting in the numerous components of dance performance, for example, sound, costumes, and lighting.
